Present Tense in Spanish

The present tense in Spanish is used to talk about actions happening now or habitual actions. Spanish verbs are divided into three groups based on their endings: -ar, -er, and -ir. Each group follows a specific pattern for conjugation, though some common verbs have irregular forms.

Regular Verb Conjugation

Subject -AR (hablar) -ER (comer) -IR (vivir)
yo hablo como vivo
hablas comes vives
él/ella/usted habla come vive
nosotros/as hablamos comemos vivimos
vosotros/as habláis coméis vivís
ellos/ellas/ustedes hablan comen viven
